Public Warned ‘Do Not Approach’ Man Missing from Hospital as Police Issue Urgent Appeal
Police have launched an urgent appeal to trace a man who has gone missing from hospital, warning members of the public not to approach him and instead to call 999 immediately if he is seen.
The man, identified as 33-year-old Robert Rees, was last seen leaving a hospital facility on Friday afternoon. Officers say they are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare and are asking for the public’s help in locating him.
Robert Rees is described as a white male, approximately 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, with short brown hair and facial stubble. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a grey hoodie, dark jeans, and black trainers. He may also appear disorientated or distressed, police added.
Authorities have not disclosed which hospital Mr. Rees absconded from, but they confirmed he left without being formally discharged and may require medical attention.
In a statement released on Saturday, a police spokesperson said:
“We are urgently trying to locate Robert Rees, who is missing from a hospital facility and may pose a risk to himself or others. We are asking the public not to approach him, but to call 999 immediately if they see him or have any information about his whereabouts.”
Officers are carrying out extensive searches in the surrounding areas, using CCTV footage and speaking with local residents and businesses in a bid to trace his movements. The force has also issued photographs of Mr. Rees to help the public identify him.
“We understand this appeal may cause concern,” the spokesperson continued. “Our main priority is Robert’s safe return to the care of medical professionals. We urge anyone who may have seen him or who has CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from Friday afternoon onwards to get in touch.”
Mr. Rees has links to several areas, including the city centre and nearby public transport routes, and may attempt to travel by train or bus. Police are working with local transport authorities to monitor stations and terminals across the region.
While it is not confirmed if Mr. Rees poses a direct threat to the public, police have stressed the importance of not attempting to engage with him directly.
“This is a vulnerable individual in need of professional care,” said Inspector Mark Lewis, who is leading the search. “Our appeal is simply to ensure his safety and the safety of others. Please do not attempt to confront or detain him – leave that to trained officers.”
Members of the public with any relevant information are asked to call 999 and quote incident reference number [reference number, if known], or to use the police’s online reporting tools if the information is not urgent.
As the search continues, family members of Mr. Rees have also issued a plea, saying: “We just want to know Robert is safe. If you’re reading this, please get in touch. We love you and just want to help.”
The police are expected to issue further updates as the investigation progresses. Anyone who thinks they may have seen Robert Rees is urged to act quickly and not delay contacting authorities.
