Middlesbrough has officially released nfernee Dijksteel, which may put Millwall and Queens Park Rangers on red alert after they were named as interested parties in the right back.

Last season, the Suriname international appeared in the majority of Championship games for Michael Carrick’s side, which narrowly missed out on a play-off spot.

Dijksteel, a former Manchester United midfielder, is set to be released from his contract when it expires next month.

Darren Witcoop, a journalist, reported on his X account in late April that Millwall and QPR were interested in signing the experienced right-back this summer.

With confirmation that Dijksteel will leave the Riverside Stadium next month, both clubs may be on red alert if they are still interested in the former Charlton Athletic player.

It’s that time of year again, when clubs not in the play-offs begin to publish their retained/released lists for the 2025/26 season. Middlesbrough announced a list of players on Friday, including Dijksteel.

The full-back joined Boro from Charlton in August 2019 for a reported fee of £2 million. During his six-year tenure at the club, he made over 150 appearances in all competitions before being released on Friday.

This season, the Amsterdam-born defender appeared in 33 Championship games, scoring twice and providing an assist as Middlesbrough finished 10th.

Following six fruitful years on Teesside, Dijksteel will need to find a new home. He will be joining his third senior professional club, having previously played for Charlton and Boro.

The Suriname international is no stranger to London, having spent the first three years of his professional career there with the Addicks.

Last month, Witcoop reported that Dijksteel may return to London this summer. However, his former employers’ city rivals have expressed interest in signing him as a free agent.

Millwall and QPR are reportedly interested in signing the full-back. With his future confirmed, both parties may be on high alert to secure his signature.

The 28-year-old has proven to be a quality Championship player and would add a wealth of experience to either team. Although he may not be a guaranteed starter, having Dijskteel on your roster is undoubtedly desirable for any Championship manager.

It will be interesting to see which, if any, clubs sign the former Middlesbrough player this summer. After learning that Dijksteel will be leaving Riverside Stadium for free, clubs vying for his services will be on high alert to secure his signing.
