QPR manager Cifuentes placed on gardening leave.
There has been talk over the Spaniard’s future at QPR, and he was recently linked with West Brom.
Queens Park Rangers have placed manager Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave, just days before their final Championship match of the season.
Assistant coaches Kevin Betsy and Xavi Calm will take charge of the first team on an interim basis as they prepare for Saturday’s away fixture against Sunderland (12:30 BST). QPR CEO Christian Nourry stated, “This is obviously a disappointing situation for everyone involved. “I totally understand and accept supporters’ anger at this time. “As a club, we are working to ensure this matter is resolved as swiftly as possible so we can start preparations in earnest for the future.” The decision comes following Saturday’s 5-0 loss to Burnley, which dropped QPR to 15th in the rankings.
When asked about his future before the match, he stated that he and the club needed to be on the same page. After the match, Cifuentes, 42, stated, “I said before that as long as I’m wanted, I’m very happy.”
The Spaniard joined QPR from Swedish club Hammarby in October 2023, replacing Gareth Ainsworth as the squad finished second from bottom in the Championship table. He led the team to an 18th-place finish with three victories at the end of last season. However, following a poor season, he has been linked with a move away from Loftus Road, with West Brom being the most recent team to be named.
