QPR must watch Miron Muslic at Plymouth Argyle amid Marti Cifuentes news

Marti Cifuentes appears to be desperate to leave QPR this summer, so the R’s should be keeping an eye on developments involving Miron Muslic and Plymouth Argyle.

Although the Pilgrims were relegated to League One on the final day of the season, the Austrian has received praise for re-vitalizing the side in the second half of the season and leading them to the final game.

However, he has recently been critical of the structure behind the scenes at Plymouth, with his comments raising the possibility that his future with the club is in jeopardy.

QPR should closely monitor events at Home Park as their relationship with Cifuentes may be irreversible. Muslic, if available, could be the ideal candidate to take over next season.

Cifuentes will surely leave QPR permanently this summer.

With the Championship season coming to an end, QPR find themselves in a somewhat unfamiliar situation.

Although Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave last week, he remains the club’s boss.

As a result of this decision, assistant coaches Kevin Betsy and Xavi Calm took charge of the team’s final game of the season, a 1-0 victory away to Sunderland.

While the Spanish boss has yet to lose his job permanently, his relationship with the Loftus Road hierarchy is undoubtedly irreparably damaged.

The saga began when it was revealed that Cifuentes was considering leaving his post in the summer, due to a breakdown in his relationship with Christian Nourry, the club’s CEO.

The former Hammarby manager was said to be dissatisfied with several aspects of the London club’s operations, prompting speculation that his departure was imminent.

Cifuentes’ representatives met with West Brom to discuss the vacant managerial position. When the 42-year-old did not attend a scheduled training session, QPR took action.

Cifuentes is no longer believed to be on the Baggies’ shortlist, and his decision to leave QPR remains unclear.

Although Cifuentes may be able to return to the club, his actions have almost certainly led to his permanent dismissal.

QPR should target Miron Muslic.

Muslic is one of the most promising young managers in the Championship this season, having almost kept Argyle up.

The Austrian’s inspiring speech to the players, delivered just days after joining the club, went viral on social media, earning him praise.

Since then, the Pilgrims have made significant progress on the pitch, to the point where survival in the second tier became a very real possibility by the end of the season.

When Muslic was appointed in early January, he appeared to be dead and buried, but the former Cercle Brugge player oversaw a remarkable turnaround in form that nearly kept them in the division.

Since his first game against Oxford United on January 14th, Muslic’s team has been in the top half of the form table for the last 21 games of the season, demonstrating his managerial abilities.

Championship form table since Muslic came in (as per Transfermarkt)
Club GP GD PTS
10 Hull City 21 1 27
11 QPR 21 -4 27
12 Plymouth Argyle 21 -8 26
13 West Brom 21 -1 25
14 Oxford United 21 -4 25

In Plymouth’s FA Cup win over Liverpool, Muslic’s team fought hard to keep a clean sheet and defeat the eventual Premier League champions.

However, his future was cast into doubt ahead of their clash with Leeds United last weekend, when the 42-year-old suggested that he would require a sporting director to progress the club in the long run.

Although he has clarified his love for Plymouth and the meaning behind his statements on X, there are still doubts about his desire to manage a club in the third tier.

Given this, QPR should closely monitor the situation in Devon.

The R’s have finished outside the top half of the Championship in each of the last three seasons. They need to improve their next appointment to work towards returning to the top flight.

Assuming Cifuentes leaves the club permanently, they will undoubtedly look for another progressive, young manager to take over where he left off.

Muslic, who has demonstrated his ability as a tactician as well as an excellent speaker and motivator, could be an ideal candidate for the position.
