According to L’Equipe, Championship teams interested in Clermont Foot midfielder Habib Keita include QPR and Stoke City.
Improved Championship seasons are what QPR and Stoke City hope to achieve when the 2025–2026 season arrives.
Following Marti Cifuentes’ placement on gardening leave just before the end of the previous season, it appears like Julien Stephan will take over as manager of the R’s, while Mark Robins will start the Potters’ first complete season.
Both teams will be keen to add players who will help them in their quest to move up the second division table, and it appears they may compete for Malian midfielder Habib Keita.
The 23-year-old has been a standout player for Clermont Foot in Ligue 2, and according to a report from the French news outlet L’Equipe, QPR and Stoke City are two Championship teams interested in signing him.
Other clubs that are interested in him are not yet listed, but the Hoops and SCFC would be wise to keep an eye on his skills. According to rumours, Keita intends to leave the French this summer.
Shortly before the season ended, he was cut from the squad and switched agents.
Additional information about Keita
Before being signed by French powerhouse Olympique Lyon at an early age, Keita began his career with JMG Bamabo in his home country of Mali.
After that, he progressed in their academy and gained experience while playing for KV Kortrijk on loan in Belgium. Before being sold to current club Clermont Foot in 2023, the QPR and Stoke City target would make seven appearances for Lyon’s first team. The 23-year-old Keita has since made 59 appearances for the team, including 30 during the previous campaign.
Playing primarily in central midfield but also in deeper and more advanced situations, and occasionally out on the right-hand side, he contributed one goal and four assists.
Stoke City and QPR’s midfield alternatives

With their respective managers starting their first summer windows with the clubs, the QPR and Stoke City squads need a little revamp. They will be looking to leave their mark.
Kieran Morgan is a promising young player, and the R’s have key players like Jonathan Varane and Sam Field available in the centre. Despite being a somewhat reliable choice, Jack Colback is no longer a spring bird at the age of 35.
Regarding the Potters, Wouter Burger’s future is uncertain, while Jordan Thompson is leaving to join Preston North End. Other possibilities are Tatsuki Seko, Ben Pearson, and Lewis Baker, but Sol Sidibe is also of interest.
