QPR to launch last gasp bid to sign Southampton FC player

In addition to losing to Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Cup, Julien Stephan’s team has had a dismal start to the 2025–26 season, winning only one of their first four league games. Coventry City’s 7-1 thrashing was one of these losses, and it might have compelled QPR to look for additional defensive reinforcements before the window closed.

Queens Park Rangers eyeing up Ronnie Edwards move.

This summer, QPR brought on nine new players, with a particular emphasis on offensive additions such Kwame Poku, Richard Kone, and Koki Saito. On the day of the deadline, Stephan hopes to strengthen his defence by acquiring Edwards. West London Sport claims that in order to get the 22-year-old back to Loftus Road, the Rs are trying to reach an agreement with Southampton.

QPR saw a bid rejected for the defender’s services earlier in the summer, but negotiations have continued, with another loan deal a possibility.

It was reported by Alfie House via X that the Saints’ position was that they weren’t looking to cash in on the centre-half, but that hasn’t stopped Stephan and Co. pursuing a deal.

Edwards signed for Southampton for £3 million from Peterborough United in 2024 but struggled to establish himself at St. Mary’s and was ultimately loaned out to QPR in January.

At 22 years of age, the defender still has a great amount of room to develop into which may be why Will Still isn’t eager to let him exit the club.

QPR may regret going all in on Ronnie Edwards move

QPR is still attempting to reach a deal with Southampton for Edwards’ services as the window draws to a close. The Saints have been adamant that they do not want to sell the defender, though, and if they do so, the Rs may end up with nothing. The 22-year-old made an impression at Loftus Road the previous season, but as it became apparent that Edwards wasn’t for sale, Stephan and company could have been better off pursuing other prospects. In the end, QPR will suffer greatly over the course of 46 games if they don’t acquire a replacement centre-back, and they might have avoided that suffering by letting Edwards go earlier in the Summer.
