QPR told to avoid “gutting” Ilias Chair transfer situation.
This article is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features personal perspectives from our FLW Fan Pundits on the most recent breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings, and more…
Ilias Chair, a Queens Park Rangers midfielder, has had a frustrating 2024/25 season.
The 27-year-old was sidelined for the first seven Championship games of the season due to a back injury, and a knee injury forced him to miss another five games in November and December.
Between December and March, he was a regular in the team. However, a hamstring injury forced him to miss six league games before returning to play against Swansea City at Loftus Road last month.
The Morocco international has been a regular for QPR for the past five seasons. He hopes to overcome his injury-related season and contribute to the club’s future success.
QPR must maintain control of “leader” Ilias Chair.
QPR fan pundit Louis Moir named Ilias Chair as the player he would not want to leave the club this summer.
“I think the one player that we don’t want to lose has got to be Ilias Chair,” Louis told the crowd.
“Obviously, he signed a new contract, and there’s no denying how much he enjoys it. He has repeatedly stated that we have given him everything.
“That won’t stop clubs interested in him from making offers. It’s all well and good for him to sign on, but nowadays, it means nothing, and he could still leave in the summer if we get an offer we can’t turn down.
“I just think that, obviously, there will be a few outgoings in terms of certain players being released, potentially loaned out, and possibly sold.
“Chair is just that one, if he keeps fit. We obviously missed him a lot this season due to his lengthy absences, but on his day, he is one of the best players in the division. Everything passes through him; he is capable of so much more in terms of numbers – his goals and assists could be far greater than they have been.

“For me, losing him would be a significant loss to the team. I believe he is a significant leader now as well. He has been at the club for years, maturing and growing older. If we lose him, it will be devastating.
“I’m not worried about it. I’d just say he’s the one player I don’t want to lose. Offers would have to come in, and they might not come in at all, or they might come in but be insufficient.
“Fingers crossed he is still with us next season because if he stays fit, and we try and improve on what we have done this season, he will be a huge part of that and any success we may have.”
QPR have a good position with Chair.
Louis is right to be concerned that other clubs may be interested in a player of Chair’s quality this summer. However, QPR are in a strong position to sign the 27-year-old.
He signed a new long-term contract at Loftus Road in January, so any other club would have to make a significant offer to lure him away from West London.
The player appeared to be fully committed to QPR during an interview on the club’s official website after signing his new contract.
“This is the only club I know and I am delighted,” the chairman commented.
“QPR has been a constant in my life, and that is beautiful. I’m just so happy to keep going.
“I can’t wait to have more unbelievable moments at this club.”
