Rail works warning as Blades fans head to Wembley
Ahead of Saturday’s Championship play-off final matchup between Sheffield United and Sunderland at Wembley, rail companies have advised Sheffield United supporters on how to get there.
Over the weekend, the Midland Main Line south of Bedford will be blocked due to engineering work between Sheffield and London.
According to the East Midlands Railway (EMR) and London North Eastern Railway (LNER), Doncaster will be the quickest train route into the city.
Blades supporters who want to be promoted to the Premier League have been urged by both organizations to be “mindful” and “considerate” of other passengers who are not traveling for the game.
What are LNER and EMR saying?
Trains throughout the network are anticipated to be “extremely busy” on Saturday and Sunday, according to a joint statement from EMR and LNER.
Instead, they advised supporters to think about taking the direct line on Friday or Bank Holiday Monday.
According to the operators, passengers on the day should get to their departure stations early because there might be queuing systems in place over the weekend.
Additionally, they issued a warning that anyone who purchased a ticket without reserving a seat might have to stand the entire way.
How can Blades supporters take the train to Wembley?
Over the weekend, the quickest planned route from Sheffield to London is via Doncaster to London Kings Cross.
A total of 600 seats have been added by LNER to the Saturday departures from Doncaster at 07:58 and 10:47 BST.
Additionally, it stated that it was collaborating with Network Rail to introduce a second southbound service in the morning.
On Saturday night, how can supporters get home?
To transport supporters back to Doncaster, an additional northbound departure has been added, departing London Kings Cross at 20:25 BST, according to LNER.
The usual flight from London to Doncaster at 20:30 BST is completely sold out.
According to Trainline, external, tickets are also no longer available for the last departure from London Kings Cross, which is scheduled for 22:00 BST.
To assist supporters in returning home, an additional Transpennine Express train from Doncaster to Sheffield has been added at 23:58 BST.
