Rangers family rally round son of fan killed in Istanbul with day to remember

Rangers fans and players have rallied behind the bereaved family of fellow supporter Christopher Potter, who was slain in Istanbul while following the Gers in Europe, as his little son was given a day to remember.

Christopher Potter went suddenly when he was struck by two cars in Besiktas on Thursday, March 6 before to the Ibrox side’s 3-1 first-leg victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League round-of-16.

Leaving behind his wife Holly and young children Jak, 20, Millie, 13, and Teddy, 6, the 40-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

Teddy, his youngest son, was invited to Ibrox yesterday to watch the team defeat Aberdeen 4-0. He even met Nicolas Raskin, the Rangers’ Players’ Player of the Year, who wrote on Instagram about the interaction with the child as “what football’s all about.”

Holly, Christopher’s wife, spoke to the Record about the Rangers’ and its supporters’ unwavering support during the terrible ordeal.

“Teddy has really embraced football since his dad passed away, and Rangers have become a huge passion of his,” she said. I know how much it would have meant to Christopher and I like to think that he is gazing down with a grin on his face, glad that Teddy is following in his footsteps.

“What a fantastic experience it was for Teddy at the game yesterday. I must express my sincere gratitude to the Rangers family and supporters. For him, they truly went above and above, and that meant a lot.

“I know his dad would have been jealous that he got to lead the chants and get a shot of the megaphone.” “The fans made a big deal out of him, giving him stickers and other items, and he hasn’t stopped talking about it.

It was such a special day.” “I also have to thank Nico Raskin for coming over and posing for a picture with Teddy and posting it on his own social media. Again, the fans were responsible for arranging that and it was just the perfect ending to a perfect day for Teddy.

“This follows last month’s 2-0 loss to Hibernian at Ibrox, where the young player led the team out alongside Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Butland had earlier contacted the family to arrange a meeting between him and his mother at Ibrox for the Fenerbahce home leg.

In the game’s 40th minute, thousands of Rangers fans gave Christopher a hearty round of applause. Banners were held up in his memory reading: “With the angels you’ll be singing, our most dear friend. Christopher Potter, 1984–2025.

Holly, Christopher’s distraught wife, talked about how her family was feeling overburdened. “I was completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of emotion,” she stated at the time.

“The Rangers family came together in a big way. I’m sure Christopher would have been overjoyed to see how they paid their respects and gave the Fenerbahce supporters credit for participating as well.

“I have to thank all the players from the bottom of my heart. Teddy had the opportunity to walk down pitchside after the game, meet his Rangers hero Jack Butland, and take a picture with him.

“All of the players signed the top that Jack handed him from last night. “That was for you, Teddy,” read the message.

“The pain we are all feeling at the time is unfathomable, but there is some consolation knowing how much liked and well-thought of Christopher was.”

Christopher, a roofer with SLK Roofing, was hit by a vehicle while crossing a road and was subsequently struck by another automobile. After leaving an entertainment place, he was taking a taxi back to his hotel when he pulled over to take out cash.

One of the drivers was imprisoned for “murder by negligence,” while the other was placed on probation, according to local sources.
