Rangers have entered negotiations with Leicester City over the transfer of England international centre-back Conor Coady. The 32-year-old is viewed as a major summer target by the Scottish club, with new manager Russell Martin aiming to make a strong statement early in his tenure.
According to journalist Scott Burns, Rangers are eager to finalise the deal swiftly, especially with the squad already back in training ahead of their important UEFA Champions League qualifying fixture in July.

Leicester City Expected to Part Ways with Experienced Defender
Coady appears poised to leave Leicester City amid growing uncertainty at the club. The Foxes are dealing with multiple off-field issues, including a possible points deduction due to financial breaches, as well as confusion surrounding the future of manager Ruud van Nistelrooy—who, despite being set to depart, remains in charge.
Coady’s contract runs until summer 2025, but the defender is said to be open to a move to Glasgow. Leicester, who were relegated back to the Championship last season, are looking to reduce their wage bill, and Coady’s departure could help ease that burden. He made 22 appearances during Leicester’s 2023–24 Premier League campaign.
Ibrox Side Eye Leadership and Top-Level Experience
Rangers are pressing ahead with their transfer plans under new sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who knows Coady well from their time together at Everton. The defender brings with him a wealth of top-flight experience, having earned 10 England caps and nearly 200 Premier League appearances, including a strong spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The club also appears close to securing a loan move for Bournemouth full-back Max Aarons as they look to strengthen ahead of their Champions League test against Panathinaikos.
Coady’s vocal presence and ability to organise a defence are seen as key assets. For Rangers, adding a player of his pedigree could offer both European and domestic benefits. A move to Ibrox may also provide Coady with the ideal next chapter in his career.
