Pierce Charles is the latest name to be linked after former Owls teammate Djeidi Gassama made the move to Ibrox
Rangers are apparently preparing to raid Sheffield Wednesday again, this time for a new goalkeeper.
Russell Martin has previously signed Djeidi Gassama from the Owls for £2.2 million.
And now the wide receiver might be reunited with former Hillsborough teammate Pierce Charles.
According to rumors down south, the Northern Irish international goalkeeper is on the Ibrox desired list and is interested in making the move.
Martin had previously stated that he was trying to fill the position, but a loan transfer for Brighton’s Carl Rushworth will not take place.
The focus has now switched to Charles, 19, as Martin seeks to expand his alternatives between the sticks, having already rotated between Liam Kelly and Jack Butland this preseason.
Charles has two years left on his Wednesday deal and made 13 appearances for the South Yorkshire club last season.
However, due to the club’s well-documented financial troubles over the summer, they were forced to release a number of senior players, and Charles appears to be the first choice for the 2025/26 season.
He declared last month that nothing could force him to quit Wednesday this summer, therefore Rangers may have a difficult time convincing him to relocate to Glasgow.
“I don’t pay any attention to it. “If it comes around, it comes around,” he explained to the Belfast Telegraph. “I’m quite happy with Sheffield Wednesday right now. Nothing could make me leave at this moment. I’m playing, and I’m quite happy there.”
