Rangers plotting transfer move that Sheffield Wednesday fans won’t like
According to rumours, Rangers are interested in custodian Pierce Charles, which might mean Sheffield Wednesday
loses another valuable asset as their terrible summer goes on.
The Owls may have to sell more players after their proposed buyout failed, though, as their financial issues don’t
appear to be getting better. TEAMtalk claims that Rangers are thinking of mounting another raid on the struggling
South Yorkshire team in order to get Charles.
Charles joined the team from Manchester City in 2021 and worked his way up through the Wednesday academy to
earn a spot in the starting lineup. He ended the previous season as the team’s top goalkeeper, starting the last eight
games after James Beadle, a Brighton & Hove Albion loanee, was benched in March.
Charles has also cemented his place as Northern Ireland’s first choice at international level over the past 12 months,
and as his reputation continues to grow, it seems he is now attracting attention from the Scottish Premiership giants.

Rangers weighing up move for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles
Rangers are the most recent team to express interest in the 19-year-old after he was linked to Premier League team
Aston Villa prior to the January transfer window. Charles signed a new contract with Wednesday last May that would
keep him at Hillsborough until the summer of 2027, but that hasn’t stopped the rumours about his future.
In an interview with the Belfast Telegraph earlier in the summer, Charles stated that he had no plans to leave the
Owls anytime soon, saying, “I don’t really pay any heed to it.” It will come around if it does.
“I’m ecstatic at Sheffield Wednesday at the moment. Nothing could force me to depart at this time. There, I’m having
a great time playing.”
But those remarks were made prior to the start of Wednesday’s off-field problems, and it appears that Charles’
position on a possible departure has since evolved. According to TEAMtalk, he is “enthusiastic” about the possibility
of joining Rangers.
The Gers had been interested in signing Brighton custodian Carl Rushworth, but this week journalist Alex Crook
disclosed that the Premier League team would not allow him to move to Ibrox. As a result, manager Russell Martin
will have to look elsewhere, and Charles is rumoured to have “emerged as a prime target” for the former
Southampton manager.
In addition to Gassama’s departure, Wednesday also sold fellow winger Anthony Musaba to Samsunspor in Turkey
for £800,000. Additionally, Josh Windass and Michael Smith, two of the team’s best forwards, left on Thursday after
their contracts were mutually terminated, and Charles may be the next to leave.
Losing Pierce Charles would be another huge Sheffield Wednesday blow

always been regarded as a talented player at Hillsborough—put up some outstanding displays.
In addition to hoping that Charles would be their first choice custodian for many years to come, Owls supporters had
anticipated that he would eventually fetch a high transfer fee; therefore, losing him to Rangers in what would
probably be a low-ball deal would be a devastating blow to the team.
However, if their turbulent summer gets worse, Chansiri might have to cash in on another Wednesday star in order
to satisfy his financial obligations, especially because there is no indication of an impending takeover and July’s pay
cheque is approaching.
