‘Rangers set sights on agreeing Jamie Vardy deal – there will be movement this week’

‘Rangers set sights on agreeing Jamie Vardy deal – there will be movement this week’.

Rangers are hoping to reach an agreement to capture Jamie Vardy on a free transfer after he leaves Leicester City.

That is according to former Manchester United senior scout and former Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected inside the league and has exclusively told Football Insider that the 38-year-old is interested in the transfer.

Vardy is eager to continue playing at the highest level, despite interest from Premier League clubs, but the opportunity to play European football is thought to be a lure.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that the Leicester legend’s availability on a free transfer will allow the Glasgow club to redirect its financial resources elsewhere.

This comes amid rumours regarding Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane’s futures at Ibrox, with Russell Martin eager to sign a new number nine.

Rangers are planning to make several additions this summer with the assistance of new owners 49ers Enterprises, according to Football Insider on June 2.

Rangers race Leeds United in move for Jamie Vardy

Brown told Football Insider in May that Leeds are investigating a move for Vardy to address their striker issues, with his goal-scoring ability viewed as a valuable asset. The former scout, who has over a decade of expertise in top-level player recruitment after working at Manchester United during their most successful period, believes Rangers can persuade Vardy to join Martin’s side, where he will thrive. “It’s a situation they’ve been looking into because they want to take advantage of any opportunity to get great players on free transfers.

“I anticipate a lot of action this week, as contracts expire today [June 30]. “So it’s the type of transaction they may gain from, given his experience and goal-scoring abilities.

“I expect Vardy to be open to it as well, because it is less intense than the Premier League, which he may not be best suited to at this juncture of his career.

“It would also provide him with the option to play in Europe, ensuring that he maintains his excellent level. “He’s been doing well for a number of years and may be on the verge of breaking out, so a move to the Rangers would be an excellent opportunity. “I believe he would fit in well and score a lot of goals, which is precisely what Russell Martin needs.

“Especially because they’re likely to lose two of their current forwards.

“Then, because he would be on a free transfer, they can save some money which would then be put towards other areas of the team.”

Conor Coady update emerges at Ibrox

Along with Vardy, Rangers are reportedly looking to sign his former Leicester teammate Conor Coady to improve Martin’s defensive options.

On June 27, Football Insider exclusively disclosed that Rangers are in advanced talks to sign Coady and aim to complete the deal soon.

Coady, 32, is in the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium, and Leicester see him as a sellable asset as they look to clear space in their roster.

This comes after Football Insider reported on June 15 that Leicester are open to Coady’s departure and have encouraged Rangers to reach an agreement.
