Reading FC chairman speaks on manager Noel Hunt and ‘sympathy’ for staff

Rob Couhig, chairman of Reading FC, praised manager Noel Hunt’s work since he became the team’s first-team manager.

When Ruben Selles left the Royals in the middle of a play-off run to join Hull City last December, Hunt took control.

Hunt maintained some outstanding results in spite of all the off-field distractions, which helped the squad contend for the top six during the 2024–2025 season.

Reading can look back on a very promising season of growth on the pitch, even though they ultimately missed out on a play-off spot on the last day.

“Remember Noel (Hunt) took over from what everyone thought was the next superstar manager, and in fact he just got hired at Sheffield United,” Couhig stated during an interview with Rich and Rob.

“Even though Noel had never held a managerial position, he has excelled in spite of all these challenges, and we look forward to working with him in the future.”

Additionally, Couhig expressed his empathy for the employees and the work they had to undertake during the previous ownership’s uncertain times.

Speaking about the staff’s anxiety about whether they would be paid at the end of each month, Couhig remarked, “They went through it.”

Our sympathies for them are very strong. They are decent individuals who have done a fantastic job of maintaining the club.

He went into further detail about his intentions to establish Reading as a household name in the US.

“It’s my responsibility to establish Reading as a household name for English football in the US and to establish its reputation for integrity, openness, and stability.”
