Reading FC director speaks on expected external investment

Reading FC director speaks on expected external investment.

Reading director Alec Lundberg has commented about the impending funding and how it ‘will not impact the goal’ of Rob Couhig and Co. The Royals were finally taken over last month, with former Wycombe Wanderers chief Couhig joined on the board by Todd Trosclair and Lundberg. However, within a few days, US investment firm Aliya Capital announced that it will join the board, with founding partner Ross Kestin stating, “With its 150-year tradition and fiercely dedicated fans, Reading is a sleeping giant. We want to do whatever it takes to help it reach its full potential in the EFL and, eventually, Premier League glory.”

Lundberg spoke to the Elm Park Royals podcast while still awaiting official EFL approval, which is likely to be straightforward. During their conversation, the question of external investment and Aliya Capital came up. While Aliya Capital’s financial power has piqued fans’ interest, Lundberg has assured that any external funding will not alter their intentions. “The goal is to make the club better, and nothing can distract from that. That mission remains unaltered. However, there are those that are interested in and support our objective and strategy. They may just have resources and capital, which we may believe accelerates that growth model timetable. At the end of the day, we can’t change the mission or what we’re trying to do and the way we are trying to create the coherent strategy management or culture.

“We’re not looking to spend the flash in the pan cash because once it’s gone, you’re right back where you were with the previous ownership. It’s all about money, and if it doesn’t work, someone will eventually quit writing the checks. “The idea is that if we have people really interested and who get what we’re trying to do, we will bring them in on a minority capacity and let those resources go into furthering the mission of what we’re trying to do for Reading Football Club.” Couhig is scheduled to visit the town next week, the first time since his acquisition was formally confirmed, and Lundberg is likely to visit at the end of the month.
