Reading are interested in signing Brighton attacking midfielder Kamari Doyle on loan, after landing the services of his Seagulls team-mate Mark O’Mahony.
Noel Hunt’s team is preparing for another run at the League One play-offs, having losing out by just three points last season. The Royals have already seen some significant off-field changes this year, with Rob Couhig taking over from previous owner Dai Yongge, which was highly greeted by the club’s fanbase, and their transfer business has really begun to pick up in the last week.
Reading keen on move for Brighton attacking midfielder Kamari Doyle

Hunt and his transfer staff have already added Paudie O’Connor, Jack Stevens, Fin Burns, and Matty Jacob to their roster, and as FLW exclusively revealed last week, the Berkshire club was in pole position to sign Irish striker Mark O’Mahony from Brighton, a deal that has now been sealed. Reading’s transfer talks with Fabian Hurzeler’s side may not end there, however, as The Athletic journalist Andy Naylor via X reports that the two clubs are considering another temporary deal, this time for Doyle.
Doyle spent the first half of the season on loan at Exeter City before moving to another League One club, Crawley Town, in January. Despite the Red Devils’ relegation to League Two, the teenager was brilliant, scoring seven goals and contributing four assists in 21 games. Doyle clearly left an effect during his brief spell in the third tier, contributing to a last-minute equaliser when the Red Devils faced Reading in the league last season.
His outstanding statistics have understandably prompted the Royals to pursue a loan for the midfielder, which could prove to be a critical move. Doyle joined Brighton from Southampton in January 2024 and has made two appearances for England’s under-19 team, both coming in late 2024 while on loan at Exeter City.
Kamari Doyle would be a coup for Reading FC – he could be a Championship calibre player

There is no doubt that the teenager would be a terrific addition to Hunt’s side this summer, adding a distinct touch that may propel them to the third tier next season. However, given Doyle’s League One stats from last season at such a young age, it could be argued that he has already demonstrated his readiness for a tougher task.

During his time with Crawley, the 19-year-old played with experience and flare that belied his youth, hoping to develop the skills required to operate at a higher level. Thus, a Championship loan might give Doyle with the necessary career advancement at this stage of his development. Reading will, of course, hope that Brighton allows their asset to enjoy another season of flying in League One, but this may prove to be wishful thinking.
