Reading FC new recruit on Madejski moment to forget

Reading FC new recruit on Madejski moment to forget.

Jack Marriott, a recent addition to Reading, wants to create more positive experiences with the team than one

memorable one.

The 30-year-old scored on his entire debut at Swindon Town on Tuesday, a 3-2 loss to the Robins in the Vertu

Trophy, after agreeing to a three-year contract last month.

Marriott is a very skilled attacker who has scored more than 100 goals in EFL competition while playing for teams

like Derby County, Luton Town, and Peterborough United.

Marriott has had a rough time in Berkshire and has never scored against the Royals, despite being a frequent

opponent throughout the years.

In September 2021, Darren Ferguson’s freshly promoted Peterborough United lost 3-1 at the SCL Stadium. The

forward walked off with eight minutes remaining after spraining his hamstring, missing almost four months of

Championship play.

“I have a recall of tearing my hamstring on a Tuesday night at the Madejski. That one will be forgotten. I hope the

fans will continue to be excellent for us going forward since I’ve played against them many times and they’ve always

been fantastic.”

Stepping down from the Championship after getting promoted last season with Wrexham, Marriott struck six times

for Phil Parkinson’s side but struggled for minutes after the Red Dragons purchased Royals star Sam Smith to aid

their rise.

Marriott was eager to move on in his quest for minutes after failing to start a League One match for the team in

2025, and he was only talking to one person when the opportunity arrived.

“I spoke to him [Smith] when I first heard about it and he had some great things to say about the club, so it made my

decision that little bit easier.”

Marriott is expected to start at number nine as Noel Hunt’s team looks to climb back up the League One standings

and build on last week’s first league victory of the season as they enter an international break that begins on Tuesday.
