Reading FC removed from EFL embargo list after publishing 2023/24 accounts
After Reading Football Club released their 2023–2024 financial statements, they were taken off the EFL’s
embargoed list.
Subject to legal proceedings that should be concluded in the next few days, Rob Couhig’s long-awaited takeover of
the club to buy it from Dai Yongge was confirmed over the weekend.
The team reported £21.7 million in losses for the 2022–2023 season, more than a year after the deadline.
The club lost £12.1 million in their first season back in League One after falling to the third division for the first time
in almost 20 years, according to the new financial statements.
The data revealed that salary dropped from £14 million to £10 million, while turnover dropped to £10 million from
£18.7 million the year before.
The Royals will now be eligible to participate in the transfer market under new owner Rob Couhig as a result of
disclosing their financial statements.
Due to Dai Yongge’s numerous financial transgressions, the club has been unable to recruit anyone other than free
agents or loan players for over five years because of embargoes.
Reading last paid a transfer fee for a player when they spent around £3 million to acquire Ovie Ejaria, a midfielder,
from Liverpool after he had two successful loan stints with the team.
After a promising beginning, his stint at Reading ended badly when he was released in December 2023 by mutual
consent.
