The 16-goal midfielder has been a fan favourite and has placed in the top three for Player of the Season in both of his

seasons to far.

However, the former Cambridge United player has been recovering from an injury sustained in the penultimate

game of the previous season throughout the summer.

Even worse, as the forward approaches the last year of his contract, Championship clubs have expressed interest in

him, casting doubt on his future with the Royals.

“Harvey is still our player and here, training on the grass,” Hunt said ahead of Pompey’s visit. “He is in full training

but spoke to the physios and he’s not quite ready to be involved at the weekend but as far as I’m aware, and I’ve not

been told any different, he’s still a Reading player.

“I would prefer it if something were to occur sooner so that we could make plans to get the squad that will be present

as tight as possible. If it is going to occur, it must do so within the next week or else we will arrange for him to stay

here.”

On August 2, Reading will make their League One debut in Lincoln City for the 2025–2026 season.

Hunt is still looking for at least three or four new faces before the transfer window ends on September 1 at 7 p.m.
