Reading FC has begun to prepare for the “best in class in UK” pitch.

Despite having fewer resources, the Royals’ ground crew did a commendable job of maintaining the pitch at a respectable condition. However, new owner Couhig has now sought the assistance of Premier Pitches, a top sports turf rehabilitation firm.
While the club’s in-house ground crew continues the renovations during the summer, the firm has already begun work, spending three days removing the top level from the field.
As Landways continues their official consultation on the stadium infrastructure, this on-pitch work has been paired with general stadium enhancements.
Preseason games will start later this month, even though the new League One season doesn’t start until August.
Couhig said: “The reconstruction of the pitch constitutes a further aspect of our commitment to make the Select Car Leasing Stadium best in class in the UK.
We intend to have the finest level of player within our roster, and this work will give them with the highest calibre of playing field for them to ply their trade.
We have to make an investment in this essential piece of infrastructure because the stadium hosts a significant number of games for both the First Team and the Academy.
“We’re thrilled to have Premier Pitches join our Grounds Team in helping to prepare the playing surface this summer,” said James Stabler, the stadium’s head grounds person.
The amount of money we’re investing in the project will serve as a benchmark for the upcoming campaign and will benefit us as we approach winter and beyond.
Before the tractors arrive this weekend, we have just finished the process of dying off the grass. After working through the weekend and into the first part of the following week, it will be seeded and given ten days to grow under our germination sheets.
