Marti Cifuentes was placed on ‘gardening leave’ by the club prior to the last Championship encounter of the season against Sunderland, and he appears poised to quit QPR amid ties to West Brom and reported problems with club executives. Several people have been floated as potential replacements, but Thorup has emerged as the leader. According to Scandinavian football experts Tipsbladet, the Dane is ‘near to becoming the new head coach of QPR’. Thorup is alleged to have had’several talks’ with the London company, including a face-to-face meeting with individuals in charge of recruitment.
Ex Norwich City manager close to QPR appointment
Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Norwich City, Cifuentes lauded Thorup and his players, possibly unintentionally endorsing a guy who could succeed him. He stated, “I believe they have a really good manager and they do a lot of good things.” It’s a team that aims to play possession with a lot of talented players. “Borja (Sainz) is one of the top players in the league, and Nunez is demonstrating his abilities. When they make substitutions, it’s quite difficult. They had the option of putting (Ashley) Barnes up front and changing their attack, so they are a very good team.”

Cifuentes also praised Thorup’s ability to get his team to score goals, which QPR fans will hope to see when the manager arrives in west London. Following his team’s 3-0 victory, Cifuentes said: “Football is a weird game, since we are third in the league in terms of finishes, and Norwich is 13th in terms of finishes.
“Despite the fact that they had scored 35 goals prior to this game and we had only 15. Football is a game that emphasises accuracy and quality. Norwich has the best scoring and finishing accuracy in the league. That’s why I constantly believe that data will always tell us the story we want to hear. “In this game, I saw a Norwich team with excellent accuracy and goal-scoring ability. But you can see it in the little margins. They had one disallowed, and we scored the third goal, which nearly ended the game. Football is all about the small margins.
