Report of people ‘in river’ triggers emergency response at Salisbury gardens

POLICE officers and firefighters rushed to Queen Elizabeth Gardens yesterday evening after they were alerted that people were in the river.

Emergency services were summoned to Salisbury Park about 7 p.m. on Tuesday (April 22), but no one needed assistance.

Firefighters departed the park two hours later.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson stated, “At around 7.15pm yesterday, we received a complaint of members of the public possibly being in the river in Salisbury.

“Following enquiries, it was established that anybody in the river had safely exited with no emergency services requirement.”

A representative for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service stated: “We were called at 7:23pm yesterday to assist police with an incident near Churchfields Road in Salisbury.

“Crews from Salisbury, Wilton, and Stratton attended, as did one appliance from Fareham (Hampshire & IOW). Our stop was at 9:17 p.m.”

Residents reported seeing police cars, fire engines, and a helicopter overhead throughout the evening.

An anonymous Facebook user stated, “Definitely something [has] happened in Lizzie Gardens. “There was a large police presence until about an hour ago.”
