REPORT: TOWN 1-0 GREUTHER FÜRTH (FRIENDLY)

At the Kaiserwinkl Arena in Kössen, Austria, Lee Grant’s squad fought their way to victory against Greuther Fürth as

they concluded a successful week in Europe.

Town had to overcome hardship in a difficult match against Greuther Fürth, a German team, in our second and last

game of their preseason tour. It was evident in the first few minutes that the game would be a physically demanding

contest.

The majority of the first half was spent with both sides cancelling each other out. We didn’t witness Fürth break into

the box and produce a chance until half an hour had gone by Managing to get round the tall frame of Owen

Goodman, the German side were expected to score, but Jack Whatmough scrambled back towards his goal and made

a crucial block to deny them the lead. Omar Sillah was first to react to the ball after the block, but Josh Feeney was

committed in ending the move, forcing the forward to hit the ball over the bar.

Jay Sway stepped forward and passed the ball to Mickel Miller’s feet ten minutes after the interval. With lots of grass

in front of him, the seasoned wide player cut infield and passed the ball into substitute Bojan Radulovic. Goalie Pelle

Boevink was not troubled by Radulovic’s attack despite the fact that he ran down the middle of the pitch and opened

up for a shot on goal.

With Ruben Roosken entering the field, Sway switched out onto the right side. Linking up with Radulovic on the

wing, the ball was played into Ben Wiles in a central area. Wiles looked as though he was going to whip the ball

across the face of goal, but instead opted to cut inside and curl a left footed shot towards the far corner, only for the

effort to go narrowly wide.

Wiles picked up the ball in a deeper spot with fifteen minutes remaining and lofted it over the Fürth defence. The two

Fürth central defenders were seriously troubled by Freddie Ladapo, who did a good job of holding them off and

giving Town a chance. Town took the lead when Radulovic calmly slotted the ball under Boevink after arriving in the

box and receiving it.

Although there were a few moments during the game when tensions erupted, Lee Grant’s team did well to stay

focused on the task at hand and earned their 1-0 victory.

That concludes Austrian football. In terms of intensifying their preparation for the Sky Bet League One season, Town

had an excellent week.
