Road in Chester Closed in Both Directions After Two-Car Crash
A road in Chester was closed in both directions last night following a serious two-car collision that required an emergency response from multiple fire crews.
The incident occurred on Chapel Lane at approximately 7.20pm on Monday, April 21, prompting a swift response from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, paramedics, and police. The road was immediately cordoned off to ensure public safety and allow emergency personnel to work efficiently at the scene.
According to a spokesperson from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, three fire engines were dispatched to the crash site. Their statement read:
“Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision involving two cars. Firefighters made both vehicles safe, released one trapped casualty, and handed them into the care of paramedics.”
The severity of the crash left one person trapped inside a vehicle. Firefighters worked quickly to extract the individual using specialized rescue equipment. The person was then transferred into the care of paramedics for medical evaluation and treatment. Thankfully, the second person involved in the crash was able to exit their vehicle without assistance but was also assessed at the scene by medical personnel.
The full extent of the injuries sustained by both individuals has not yet been confirmed. However, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service stated that both were taken to a nearby hospital for further assessment, with one believed to have suffered injuries described as “not life-threatening.”
Police were also in attendance and assisted with managing traffic and maintaining a safe perimeter around the crash site. Drivers were advised to avoid the area, with diversions put in place as the road closure caused significant delays for local traffic.
Chapel Lane remained closed for several hours as emergency services continued their operations and investigators began working to determine the cause of the crash. Debris from both vehicles was cleared and a specialist team was brought in to examine the scene and document any evidence that could assist in understanding how the collision occurred.
Local residents reported hearing a loud bang followed by the arrival of sirens. One witness, who lives just off Chapel Lane, said:
“It was a really loud crash. Within minutes, the whole street was full of flashing lights. It looked really serious at first, and we were worried someone might be badly hurt. The fire crews did an amazing job getting everything under control.”
The road was eventually reopened later in the evening once it was deemed safe, and traffic began flowing normally again. Police have asked any witnesses to the crash to come forward, especially those who may have dashcam footage that could help piece together the moments leading up to the collision.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing. In the meantime, authorities are reminding drivers to exercise caution, particularly during the evening hours when visibility can be lower and roads more hazardous.
For now, the swift response from emergency crews is being praised by locals, and thoughts are with the individuals involved as they recover from the incident.
