Roy Keane aims hilarious rangers dig with blunt Celtic comparison

Roy Keane couldn’t resist making a subtle dig at Rangers during his Overlap appearance ahead of his former club’s Europa League semi-final.

He mentions the Ibrox club’s deficit to Celtic while assessing Manchester United’s chances of reaching the final.

United are 3-0 up on aggregate into the second leg of their semi-final against Athletic Bilbao, and Keane proclaimed the contest all but over. When asked if the job was truly over, the Irishman issued a usually caustic answer.

“Bilbao just about beat Rangers,” he explained. “The Rangers are 300 points behind Celtic! “My goodness.”

The line, delivered with characteristic Keane deadpan, elicited laughs in the studio. With Celtic already proclaimed champions and on the verge of another treble, the remark will hit a nerve in Glasgow.

Rangers were knocked out of the Europa League on the first sight of quality. Athletic Bilbao didn’t look great over the two legs, but he managed to cross the finish line. Man Utd were comfortable in the first leg and have set themselves up for, what should be, an easy night at Old Trafford.

Keane, who played for Celtic in his later years, has been linked to the Parkhead dugout on several occasions but has never taken the position. He’s stuck with his punditry and has frequently given sharp, hilarious quips.
