Ryan Ledson issues Huddersfield Town rallying cry after Barnsley disappointment

Ryan Ledson, the captain of Huddersfield Town, hopes his team “can get back to the winning feeling” this week with

two home games coming up.

The Terriers will try to bounce back from their loss to Barnsley in the Yorkshire derby, where the Reds defeated 10-

man Town 3-1, this weekend.

Tomorrow night, Lee Grant’s team will play their first EFL Trophy match against Newcastle United’s under-21 team

at the Accu Stadium. On Saturday, they will face Peterborough United, who are now at the bottom of the standings.

Town were backed by close to 5,000 supporters at Oakwell on Saturday. Ledson told HTTV: “Unbelievable – I

honestly can’t thank them enough, to come out there in their numbers was amazing.

“We’ve probably let them down a little bit today of course, but we’ll be back at home next week trying to get two wins,

and we’ll be in a better place.

We’ve already discussed it there (causing a reaction), and after six games, two loses, and four victories, we currently

have 12 points. Of course, it’s still a good beginning.

“Very disappointed today, but we have some good home games coming up this week where we can show off and

regain the sense of victory.”

In the ninth minute of Saturday’s match, the Terriers went behind, but Davis Keillor-Dunn took advantage of an

Owen Goodman mistake to put the Reds ahead.

Town stopper Goodman was then dismissed for a high tackle nine minutes before the break, while the hosts doubled

their lead shortly before the interval with a deflected strike from Luca Connell.

Keillor-Dunn netted his second and Barnsley’s third five minutes from time, with Joe Taylor scoring a late

consolation for the Terriers.

Reflecting on the defeat, Ledson said: “Very disappointed. Obviously you find yourself 11-v-10 for most of the game,

it’s going to be hard. We know there’s a mistake in there, a couple of mistakes, but it’s on the team. We take it on the

chin together. A difficult day for us, but we’ll have a look at it and we’ll have to go again.

“I think we got into good areas, I think it’s just that last little bit in the final third maybe was just lacking today.

“You’ve got to dig deep for your teammate and try and get your mate out of it. I thought we did that, we got into half-

time, and the way we started the second half, for large parts of it we were the ones that looked like we were going to

score, so that was a pleasing thing.

“If we’d have got the goal to make it 2-1, I think it would’ve been an interesting game, we’d have been pushing to

make it 2-2, but the third one’s a sucker punch for us obviously, and fair play to Joe Taylor for getting his goal, I

thought he was excellent when he came on.

“There is no use in hiding; you have to get after it, and I believe the guys did. You have to rally (follow the red card).”

It’s clear that playing ten men against eleven will be difficult, but I felt that we stayed focused, pressed hard, won

balls high in the pitch, won throws and corners, and were the ones knocking on the door, which is something we like.
