‘Sat down at the table’ – Southampton officials hold more talks over star’s sale

Ertugrul Dogan, Trabzonspor’s president,’sat down it the table’ with Southampton officials on Wednesday to try to advance the Paul Onuachu transfer.

The Turkish club had been working hard to sign the Nigerian striker and thought they had a contract in place with Saints.

They then accused Southampton of shifting the goalposts with repeated requests for bonuses and the final amount.

Onuachu, who wants the move to happen, has gotten quite irritated with the process.

Trabzonspor, however, are not giving up, and according to Turkish outlet Gunebakis, their president met with Southampton authorities on Wednesday.

He urged Saints to accept a €6 million bid plus bonuses, despite Southampton’s expectation of a €9 million transfer cost.

With Onuachu out of contract at Southampton next summer, now is the optimum time for the club to secure a significant amount from his departure.

The striker wants to return to Trabzonspor, where he enjoyed a good loan spell, and hopes the two parties can reach an agreement.

Onuachu is about to fly to Turkey to undertake medical treatment with the Black Sea Storm.

He received minimal chances at Southampton previous season under Russell Martin, but when Ivan Juric took over, he was given more opportunities in the team.

Will Still has taken over as Saints’ manager as they prepare to return to the Championship.

And Onuachu is unlikely to play in the division, with the only question being how much Southampton will receive from his trade.
