Schalke closing in on appointing Plymouth manager Miron Muslic as their new head coach
According to a number of sources, Schalke is negotiating with Plymouth manager Miron Muslic to become their new head coach.
Portsmouth subsequently issued a statement verifying the first allegation by Fabrizio Romano that Schalke had invoked the clause to bring Muslic to the team. According to Sky Germany, die Königsblau is offering Muslic a deal that would last until 2027.
Schalke is currently working to complete the transaction. Other clubs had recently expressed interest in Muslic; 1.FC Köln and Hannover 96 had both expressed interest in the winter.
Muslic led Plymouth to an unexpected FA Cup victory over Premier League winners Liverpool during his brief tenure there, but the team missed out on safety in the Championship. The Bosnian, who was born and raised in Austria, led Cercle Brugge to the European Playoff Round in Belgium after serving as a coach at SV Ried in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Karel Geraerts and Kees van Wonderen were both fired by Schalke following a contentious season. Christian Titz was thought to be the best prospect for the position at die Königsblau earlier yesterday, but the move didn’t work out.
Some people are surprised by Muslic’s move because his profile is entirely different from the one that was presented to reporters.
