STEVEN Schumacher has outlined exactly what he needs from the summer transfer window to turn Wanderers into promotion contenders.
Despite his disappointment at losing out on the playoffs, the Bolton manager is determined to make a big impact in the upcoming months and will not waste any time in pursuing players to transform the team’s appearance.
When the season concludes on Saturday, Schumacher intends to include many of his current players in his plans rather than trying to make everything perfect.
However, he believes that the success that the supporters have been demanding for the past four years can be achieved with the inclusion of important new players and, more importantly, a new look.
Schumacher discussed his plans to make changes at the Toughsheet during the transfer window in an interview with The Bolton News.
He informed us, “We’ll look at possibly changing the recruitment side of things, i.e. based on a shape.” Over the past few years, this side has been brought in to play with three center-backs and a back five.
Recruiting to play a system that I prefer—playing with wide players—hasn’t been particularly simple thus far.
“If at all feasible, we would aim to obtain forward-thinking players, a number nine who runs in behind, and a muscular presence on the sides.
“All we need is a team that consistently competes each week. To leave this division, you must do that.
“You need players you can count on every single week.” Players with a little shine who can win close games are what you need. Additionally, you need players that can persevere through tough times when you’re facing adversity.
“I do believe that some of the guys in this team are capable of doing that. However, everyone knows that if we wish to leave the division, we must make improvements because this year’s performance has fallen short.
Over the past few years, Bolton has had a lot of conversations about mentality, and there have been questions raised about the present team’s capacity to maintain consistency in the high-pressure environment of a promotion campaign.
Schumacher’s early progress with the club has been eclipsed by a recent lack of form due to a major hit to confidence.
He declared, “It is a big thing in any team.” It’s not always simple to deal with pressure and expectations to perform. However, we must just concentrate on your standards every single day.
“Are you appropriately trained? Do we adequately prepare for resistance? Do we provide the players with accurate information that will increase their chances of winning? That’s our only option. I believe the players will receive mental support. They will be urged to express themselves and given encouragement.
However, they also understand that they must perform when things are tough, as is the case with that injury list right now. That’s what you need, then. Characters must rise to the occasion and give it their all each and every week.
Following today’s match against Peterborough, Wanderers will play Stevenage at home the following weekend, but Schumacher anticipates facing both teams with a drastically diminished roster.
Twelve first team players are currently out of action due to injuries that have hit hard over the past few weeks. The Bolton manager also acknowledges that one of the most important considerations in his hiring process will be endurance.
He remarked, “That was one of the first things we did with the recruitment guy that I’ve worked with for a long time over the years.” “We inquire: ‘How is the availability? Are they gamers?
You have no control over that now. Every single signing you make brings you a little bit of luck.
However, that will undoubtedly be a contributing role. Last year, how many games did they play? Why didn’t they play loads? How does the record look? Make sure they will be available for you by speaking with the physiotherapists and the clubs you are attempting to hire them from. Signing players who spend a lot of time on the treatment table is pointless.
“If at all feasible, we don’t want to do that. It is possible to avoid some of the injuries. Not all of them are.
And we will examine that over the course of the summer before reviewing it. What was the previous year’s preseason like? What was the overall game load for each player? Are they participating in programs that will enable them to play for extended periods of time?
“Most clubs should just do it because it’s required. We’ll be putting everything out there and determining what went wrong on Tuesday, immediately following the conclusion of the season.
