Ross Wilson is expected to become Newcastle United’s new sporting director, according to reports that have been circulating for weeks. Over the years, it has been a problematic situation for PIF. In fact, after brief stays in that position, Paul Mitchell and Dan Ashworth both left Newcastle United. Although there hasn’t been any formal action taken yet, Eddie Howe wants PIF to hire a sporting director.

Although Wilson is well regarded at Newcastle, additional information about the incident has surfaced. Senior football officials at St. James’ Park have not yet been informed when a sporting director of any kind will join the team, according to Chris Waugh of The Athletic. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is reportedly eager to retain Wilson, despite signs that he would accept the position if it were offered.

Additionally, the two teams still need to come to an agreement on a deal that works for everyone. It is believed that both Hopkinson and Howe desire the appointment of a sporting director. Sandro Tonali will have just two years remaining on his Newcastle United contract at the end of the current campaign. Therefore, it would be prudent to start a conversation with him right away. After the Alexander Isak fiasco, the club could definitely use another exhausting transfer saga next summer.

However, because Newcastle lacks a sporting director, Tonali’s contract negotiations are not taking place. Although they can’t wait indefinitely, there is obviously still time to address that. Perhaps Newcastle’s most valuable player’s future depends in part on the hiring of a sporting director. Behind the scenes, Newcastle needs to organise their house.
