A Serie A club has made a £10 million bid for West Brom defender Torbjorn Heggem.

West Brom are about to begin their Championship season under new manager Ryan Mason, but they may lose their main player.

Torbjorn Heggem, a West Brom defender, is being pursued by Serie A club Bologna, which has already had a proposal rejected but is still in talks, according to the Express and Star.

West Brom are embarking on a new chapter under Ryan Mason, who took over as manager earlier this summer after Tony Mowbray stepped down. With promotion back to the Premier League firmly in the WBA’s sights, Mason faces a difficult path ahead.

The Championship’s play-off battle promises to be very contested in the 2025/26 season, so the Baggies will have to be at their best to recapture a top-six position.

New signings such as Aune Heggebo are expected to strengthen the squad, but recent developments indicate that Albion may be on the verge of losing one of its important players.

According to the Express and Star, Serie A club Bologna is in talks to sign defender Torbjorn Heggem. The two clubs are now in talks about a potential £10 million agreement.

This comes after The Athletic reported that Bologna had made an offer of €6.5 million. Heggem just joined WBA last summer for a fee of £500,000, therefore any sale would result in a significant profit for the club.

Can West Brom afford to lose Torbjorn Heggem?

Torbjorn Heggem was a breakout player for West Brom in his first season. He adapted quickly to the Championship and was named the club’s player of the year.

He started all bar one of the Baggies’ 46 games last year. Heggem averaged a 7.11 match rating over those games, according to FOTMob.

The Baggies discovered a great gem when they signed him from Brommapojkarna for a small cost. However, even with the large profit, selling him at this point in the window would be extremely risky.

Could this explain West Brom’s current transfers?

So far this summer, the Baggies have prioritized quality above quantity. West Brom have only signed three players this transfer window.

However, two of those players have played as center defenders. George Campbell and Nat Phillips have both joined the Hawthorns; the latter was courted by several Championship clubs following his loan spell with Derby County last season.

With the club already well-stocked at the back, the Baggies could have been preparing for Heggem’s exit. It would be a hefty ask to fill the void left by the big Norwegian. However, with the extra monies in the bank if he does leave, WBA may have a fascinating finale to the window.
