Sheffield United are set to kick into action in the summer transfer window, as they look to rectify one precarious squad issue with two new signings.
The Blades have endured a challenging start to the 2025/26 Championship season following two successive defeats.
Following the difficult spell, Ruben Selles has hit out at Sheffield United’s recruitment, which has significantly hindered his selection.
Notably, Sheffield United’s defence looks to be a shell of its previous self, and this comes down to the untimely departure of Anel Ahmedhodzic, leaving centre-back options sparse for the Spaniard.
After the outcry from Selles, it appears that COH Sports have listened to his demands as they look to bring in two centre-backs, both of whom have Premier League experience.

Sheffield United target Ben Godfrey and Japhet Tanganga to solve centre-back crisis
It has been revealed, via Sky Sports reporter Luca Bendoni, that ‘Sheffield United plan to progress soon in talks with Millwall over Japhet Tanganga’, and this is in addition to agreeing a deal to sign Ben Godfrey on loan from Serie A side Atalanta.
Bendoni suggests that a fee ‘north of £5m’ is being discussed with the Lions for Tanganga, but alternative reports from Rob Dorsett suggest that it is closer to £2.5m.
Godfrey and Tanganga would add vast experience to the Blades backline, with the pair accumulating a total of 142 Premier League appearances between them.
Former Everton defender Godfrey will be keen to join Sheffield United as he looks to notch certain game time after being handed just 26 appearances in all competitions in the last two seasons.

Ben Godfrey and Japhet Tanganga arrivals will fix prominent Blades concern
After the opening three games in all competitions, Sheffield United have fallen to defeat in each match. Their attacking capabilities have not been too sub-par, except for the Swansea City defeat; it has been their shortcomings at the back that have caused significant issues for Sheffield United.
Thankfully, this has been noticed early by Ruben Selles and COH Sports, and they are rightly throwing money to try and solve the issue.
Ben Godfrey and Japhet Tanganga both have the necessary experience at Premier League and Championship level to make a huge impact at Bramall Lane, and Selles will be hoping that they can both be brought in as soon as possible to rectify the major concerns at the back.
