Sheffield United will meet Sunderland on Saturday in the Championship play-off final, but one Blades fan has made it clear that he does not want the Blades to achieve promotion.
A Sheffield United fan has curiously admitted that he wants his team to lose Saturday’s play-off final vs Sunderland. The Blades will face the Black Cats at Wembley Stadium for the opportunity to be promoted to the Premier League.
The Yorkshire club was last in the top tier in 2023/2024, however it was a disappointing season. The Blades finished with 16 points, winning only three games and conceding a Premier League record number of goals.
They lost out on automatic promotion by 10 points this year, but ended comfortably third in the Championship table. They will face Sunderland on Saturday, with Régis Le Bris’ side finishing fourth.
Chris Wilder’s Blades thrashed Bristol City in their play-off semi-final, while Sunderland defeated Coventry with a last-gasp extra-time goal. But one Sheffield United supporter will be betting against his team this weekend.
Dan Atkin, host of the Four Blades In The Pub podcast, has stated unequivocally that he does not want Wilder’s side promoted. Atkin is concerned that should they get promoted, a season back in the Premier League will be unpleasant to watch.
