Sheffield United is ‘interested’ in making a surprise approach for the former Barnsley FC striker, according to Hull City.

According to reports, Sheffield United is considering making a surprise deal to bring Oli McBurnie back to Bramall Lane.

After five years with the Blades, the 28-year-old left the team last year, declining a new deal to pursue opportunities elsewhere. For the first time throughout his playing career, he left England to join Las Palmas in Spain.

But. His first La Liga season concluded with a drop to the second division.

The club was previously linked to a January move for McBurnie, but the move back to South Yorkshire did not work out. Swansea City, who previously hired McBurnie from 2015 to 2019, has also been mentioned as an interested party, as has Hull, who have also been linked to a swoop.

But it seems like Celta Vigo would offer him a chance to stay in Spain and try his hand at La Liga once more.

Following his release from Leeds United as a child, McBurnie finished his football training with Bradford City. He quickly established himself in the starting lineup before Swansea drew him away from West Yorkshire. He finally rose to prominence with the Wales-based team, but not before spending time on loan at Barnsley, Newport County, and Bristol Rovers.

In 2019, he scored 29 goals in 159 games for Sheffield United, who reportedly paid £17.5 million for his services.

Oli McBurnie’s departure from Sheffield United Regarding his departure from Bramall Lane, McBurnie stated in September:

“Obviously, I was a free contract in the summer.” I was always in touch with Sheffield United, so it’s one of them. I had been there for five years and loved the town and everything about it, but I was in need of a change of pace. A part of me always wanted to resign there, but I reasoned that it would be somewhat safe.
