Sheffield United legend Billy Sharp sent off after just 53 seconds after ‘crazy’ moment in League Two

Billy Sharp had a prolific stint with Sheffield United but the former Blade found himself in an unusual position over the weekend.

Billy Sharp began his playing career at Bramall Lane, where he spent three seasons on permanent basis.

His most memorable tenure with Sheffield United began in 2015, when he arrived from Leeds United for roughly £60,000.

During that time, Sharp helped the Blades earn promotion from the Championship twice, in 2018/19 and 2022/23.

Chris Wilder’s team is once again attempting to escape the second division of English football.

However, a recent slump in form has pushed them out of the automatic promotion spots with four games remaining.

Sheffield United hero Billy Sharp sent off after 53 seconds for Doncaster Rovers

Sharp is currently playing in League Two for Doncaster Rovers, another Yorkshire club.
Sharp left Sheffield United for the final time in August 2023, traveling to the United States to sign with the LA Galaxy.

His brief experience in the MLS ended with a transfer to Hull City before he joined Doncaster in the most recent summer window.

Sharp, 39, continues to perform at a high level, having scored 11 goals in the 2024/25 season thus far.

However, the striker will most certainly want to forget one incident that occurred over the weekend.

Doncaster played AFC Wimbledon, and the match ended 1-1.

Sharp did not start the game, but was brought on in the 71st minute as Rovers looked for a winner.

However, the centre-forward only lasted 53 seconds before being issued a red card after allegedly hitting out at an AFC Wimbledon player.

Fans aren’t happy with Billy Sharp’s ‘crazy’ red card vs AFC Wimbledon

The incident sparked a lot of criticism and debate online, with one admirer calling it ‘insane’.
Meanwhile, other fans argued that the conduct did not warrant a straight red.

One fan wrote: “At best a yellow, but deffo didn’t deserve a red there.”

While another said, “For what exactly?” And a third said, “For what??”

A fourth said, “What for? Yellow at worst,” while another chose to blame the Wimbledon player: “A shocking decision. The Wimbledon players had a terrible reaction.
