In search of a loan agreement for Chiedozie Ogbene, Sheffield United is attempting to raid Ipswich Town.

Only last year did the 24-cap Republic of Ireland international join the Tractor Boys from Luton Town, a Premier League team. However, a severe knee injury limited the winger to just five matches during his tenure in the top division. Ogbene has returned to full fitness and played in Ipswich’s first games, but after Kasey McAteer and Sindre Walle Egeli were signed in the closing days of the summer transfer window, he has lost ground at Portman Road.
According to BBC Sheffield writer Andy Giddings, the Blades are interested in the 28-year-old Ogbene, who may depart before Monday night’s transfer deadline, as Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has already acknowledged. According to him, the two clubs are negotiating a possible loan deal for Ogbene to return to South Yorkshire. Ogbene previously played for Rotherham United in the region, and Ruben Selles wants to give his team more speed and inventiveness following a turbulent 2025–26 season.
The Blades’ 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Saturday means they have yet to earn a point from their opening four Championship games, making the Spaniard’s start as awful as it can go. Louie Barry, a winger, joined United this summer, but they are aggressively seeking another player in that position before the transfer market closes in January.
The Blades have only scored once in their four games, making them the lowest scoring side in the Championship and the only team without a point. Ogbene would help to improve matters at Bramall Lane, so it’s not surprising that they are trying to solve that in the last 24 hours of the window. Even if you have to consider his injuries from the previous season, the former Luton player’s speed and strength will make him a serious threat if he can return to his prior level.
The Blades’ inability to seem predictable going forward has been one of their issues; Ogbene’s ability to beat his opponent and carry the ball would allow him to bring something unique. Although the supporters will undoubtedly believe that more additions are required if they are to get back on track and push for promotion, which had been the goal before a ball was kicked this season, if they can get it over the finish line, it would make this a low-risk, reasonable signing for Sheffield United.
