Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, Norwich City keen on deal for Championship centre-back
All of Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, and Norwich City will be looking to bolster their rosters as the summer transfer window approaches.
The Canaries will remain in the Championship, but the Blades and Boro may still be getting ready for a move to the Premier League through the play-offs. However, every effort will be made to fortify.
Although each of the three has demonstrated their purchasing power at different points during the season, players entering the final 12 maths of their contacts can also take advantage of good offers during the summer window.
As his contract with Oxford United comes to an end, defender Ciaron Brown is reportedly being targeted by all three of Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, and Norwich City, according to Graeme Bailey’s report for EFL Analysis.
The Northern Irishman, who won their Player of the Season award for his pivotal role in the Championship survival effort, is eager to stay with the U’s. However, with teams both domestically and internationally interested, Brown may have alluring options elsewhere.
Along with the aforementioned Championship trio, teams in Germany, France, and Belgium are reportedly monitoring his status. Given that Brown’s contract expires in 2026, a reduced price might be sufficient to sign him.
Brown, a player for Oxford United, advanced to the Championship after the U’s previously competed in the league.
The Northern Irishman struggled to establish a starting position and eventually dropped to League One with Oxford, although finding some opportunity in the second division at Cardiff City.
But the London-born defender has made a huge impression since returning to the Championship, to the point where prominent teams like Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, and Norwich City are interested.
Before suffering an injury against QPR earlier this month, Brown started every game in his 41 appearances for Oxford. He has contributed four goals and three defensive assists over that time.
Any Championship team would be wise to make a move for Brown, even though teams like Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, and Norwich City may be favored to aim higher in the summer transfer window.
The defender has made a huge impact in the second division, playing both his native center-back position and left-back. Having played for Northern Ireland 23 times, Brown has a respectable amount of club and national experience.
Brown has shown his leadership abilities with Oxford and is in terrific health. As a seasoned and adaptable left-footed defender with a contract coming to an end, it wouldn’t be shocking if additional people expressed interest before the summer.
