Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers plotting summer transfer move for Aston Villa player
Despite not yet making his Villa debut, the 18-year-old right-back is highly regarded by the Midlands team because he was a standout player for the academy team, which has won three titles this season.
But, the next phase will be competitive football, and that’s certainly unlikely to arrive at Villa Park with the quality available to Unai Emery.
Therefore, a loan move is on the cards, and Football Insider has revealed that both Wednesday and Rovers have already made enquiries about the defender.
The two clubs are reportedly planning to reassemble their teams for the upcoming season, and they believe Rowe can play in the Championship after both of them missed the playoffs.
Championship Table | ||||
Team | P | GD | Pts | |
6 | Bristol City | 46 | 4 | 68 |
7 | Blackburn Rovers | 46 | 5 | 66 |
8 | Millwall | 46 | -2 | 66 |
9 | West Brom | 46 | 10 | 64 |
10 | Middlesbrough | 46 | 8 | 64 |
11 | Swansea City | 46 | -5 | 61 |
12 | Sheffield Wednesday | 46 | -9 | 58 |
You would think Villa would approve a transfer for the player, even though they probably want assurances that the young player will play in the future.
Of course, it’s difficult to judge Rowe because he only has youth-level experience, and even though he plays for a very exciting Villa team, the Championship is a huge step up in terms of physicality, quality, and intensity.
But, Rowe is a player that clubs think will be able to manage that move up in quality, and it makes sense that Wednesday and Blackburn are looking to identify gems to bring in on loan.
The reality is that they are two clubs who can’t compete with many opponents in the league when it comes to the resources at their disposal, so it’s not a case of throwing money at players to enhance the roster.
Rather, Hillsborough and Ewood Park’s recruitment departments must look for deals, which may involve bringing on loan players who can make an impact on the club.
