“Sheffield Wednesday Break Silence: Key Document Explained After Companies House Update”
Companies House has received Sheffield Wednesday’s 2025 confirmation statement.
The document, which was really due on June 17th, was confirmed to have been filed today. The next one is now due on June 17th of the following year.
Not filing a confirmation statement on time does not automatically result in financial penalties; instead, a 14-day grace period is applied if no confirmation statement is provided at all.
The only other notes in the paper, aside from the information like name, company number, and date of the confirmation statement, read:
“The business attests to the legality of its planned future operations.”
I certify that the company has submitted or is delivering all necessary information to the registrar regarding the relevant confirmation period at the same time as the confirmation statement.
Verified. One of the following people approved this form: Director, Secretary, Authorized Person, Manager and Recipient of the Charity Commission, CIC Manager, and Judicial Aspect
Definition of a “confirmation statement”
According to Dr. Dan Plumley, Principal Lecturer in Sport Finance at Sheffield Hallam University, all of this is quite typical.
It’s simply an annual occurrence that, if it weren’t for the Owls’ current predicament, probably wouldn’t even be noticed.
He explained to The Star that a confirmation statement is an annual file with Companies House that attests to the veracity of a business’s publicly available information.
Even if the composition and organization of the business have not changed, it must be submitted annually.
It basically confirms that the information Companies House has on the business is current.
This contains details on the company’s officials, shareholders, share capital, business operations (SIC code), and registered office address.
Wednesday is still under embargo as of this writing because players have not paid; the embargo will be lifted as soon as payments are received.
