Sheffield Wednesday are seeking to conclude a loan deal for highly rated Manchester United defender Harry Amass, but continued limitations on player registration complicate matters.
The teenager, who made his Premier League debut earlier this year, has been the subject of lengthy summer negotiations, with various sources claiming that a deal is nearing conclusion.
BBC Sport’s Simon Stone first reported that an agreement was close, a claim echoed by journalist Nathan Salt, who confirmed Amass’ absence from Manchester United’s under-21 squad as he prepared to go to Hillsborough.
Salt also verified that the Red Devils were not looking for a loan fee and that the player was interested in the move.

However, the process remains contingent on the Owls meeting outstanding financial requirements, as EFL rules now prevent the club from registering new players.

With the loan signing date of 7 p.m. tomorrow, the window for overcoming these administrative problems is quickly closing.
Amass is regarded as one of Manchester United’s brightest young prospects. The London-born full-back came through Watford’s academy, joining at the age of nine.
His skills earned him a spot on the first-team bench at the age of 15, when he was called to the squad for an FA Cup match against Reading in January 2023.
That same year, Manchester United outbid Chelsea for his signature, agreeing to a four-year contract after lengthy negotiations over pay.
Since then, Amass has been fast-tracked into United’s senior environment, working with Erik ten Hag’s first team beginning in February 2024 and featuring on the bench for high-profile games such as a Premier League encounter with Liverpool.

“You’ve just got to show your aggressive side – you might be young and smaller than the opponent, but you have to show you’re aggressive and don’t back down,” the teenager said of his defensive strategy.
That approach, along with his ability to contribute in the advanced phases, makes him an appealing choice for a Wednesday team looking to improve its defensive depth.
Should the Owls successfully navigate the EFL’s regulations in time, Amass’ arrival would be a big coup.
