Sheffield Wednesday eye Manchester United duo in double loan swoop

Sheffield Wednesday are considering a double loan transfer for highly rated Manchester United duo Harry Amass and Toby Collyer, according to the Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are once again in crisis, with players and staff still unpaid in July. Protests are planned for the club’s season opener against Leicester City, increasing pressure on SWFC owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell.

Preparations for the 2025/26 campaign have been thrown off track. Following a series of departures, the roster has been whittled down to the bone – Henrik Pedersen may have only 16 senior players available, with academy prospects waiting in the wings.

A transfer embargo had held them back all summer, but it was removed on Friday night. However, money is still limited, so loanees and free transfers are more likely, and some may arrive soon after the current SWFC statement.

According to the Star, Sheffield Wednesday are considering a double loan transfer for Manchester United’s Toby Collyer and Harry Amass. The Telegraph initially reported interest in Amass, but Collyer is also involved in Wednesday’s search.

The pair are expected to be available on loan in the last month of the transfer window, although Manchester United holds great admiration for both. However, it is unclear whether they would like to move their young players to Sheffield Wednesday right now.

Amass and Collyer could be a decent start to a mammoth job

Sheffield Wednesday have a massive task ahead of them this season following a dismal summer. Starting with Danny Rohl’s disappearance and subsequent departure, and now with a very tiny first-team squad, preparations could not have gone much worse this summer.

Wednesday will need to be very strategic with any business they manage to conduct this month. A double swoop for Amass and Collyer would undoubtedly benefit SWFC.

Last year, the pair played in Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United squad and might greatly benefit SWFC. However, completing the transactions on Wednesday may be difficult.

The challenge at hand for Sheffield Wednesday

Unfortunately, Sheffield Wednesday’s season under Chansiri’s management appears to be a drag. Unless something is done to address that issue, it is difficult to see much good around them right now.

However, there is still light at the end of the tunnel, and players such as Barry Bannan can obviously see something in the club. If they can bring more bodies in by the end of August, they will have a chance to survive.

Fans will need to support the players as much as they can. Hopefully, that faith will be rewarded, and SWFC will have a memorable season.
