Sheffield Wednesday have opened contract talks with promising young goalkeeper Jack Phillips, as reported by The Star.

The 19-year-old has drawn interest from other clubs, but the Owls are keen to secure his future at Hillsborough.

 

Phillips, who has been on the club’s radar as one of the more highly-rated academy prospects, is currently in the final stretch of his deal. While he’s yet to break into the first-team picture, his performances at youth level have not gone unnoticed by scouts from elsewhere, prompting Wednesday to act early.

The discussions come as Sheffield Wednesday approach the end of a steady if unspectacular Championship campaign. With four matches remaining, Danny Röhl’s side sit 14th in the table, firmly in mid-table and out of reach of both relegation danger and play-off contention.
