Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe has handed in his notice amid interest from Leicester City and Preston North End, according to BBC correspondent Rob Staton on X.
Sheffield Wednesday are likely to lose the player in the coming weeks. SWFC is preparing for the commencement of the next championship season.
Lowe, 28, joined the Owls around a year ago and has signed a two-year contract. Last season, he made 37 appearances across all competitions, 34 of which were in the league.
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook on X, Leicester City wants him. Preston North End has also been credited with an interest, according to Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.
Staton has declared on X that he will ‘depart’ before the 15th of August. His next destination is unclear.
After his move to Sheffield Wednesday, he told The Star: “I’m not going to lie, I knew it would cause some commotion. However, after speaking with the senior lads, particularly the gaffer, my decision became more easier. It was not something I felt I couldn’t handle, which is why I’m here. It’s no secret how intense the rivalry is, but the manager made it plain what he wants of me; I spoke with Baz (Bannan) and Liam (Palmer), and I felt I could handle it.”
Sheffield Wednesday’s latest on Max Lowe
Sheffield Wednesday recruited Lowe to strengthen their defensive unit. During the previous season, he saw a lot of action with SWFC.
Losing him would be devastating now, particularly for a team in the same league as Leicester City or Preston North End. It remains to be seen where he will travel next.

Lowe progressed through Derby County’s system and played 48 games for the Rams. He also had loan spells away from Pride Park with Shrewsbury Town and Aberdeen to gain experience.
Sheffield United came calling in 2020, and he appeared 53 times for the Blades. The Birmingham native also spent time away from Bramall Lane at Nottingham Forest.

What now for Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday has named Henrik Pedersen as its new head coach. SWFC chose him after Danny Rohl’s departure.
The Owls have had several off-field troubles recently. They are significantly underprepared for the start of next term.
Their roster is already thin, and losing Lowe would be a significant setback. They face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium next Sunday.
The Foxes were relegated from the Premier League last season, finishing in the bottom three alongside Ipswich Town and Southampton. Following his resignation from QPR, Marti Cifuentes has taken over as manager.
