An update on Sheffield Wednesday’s current position has been presented as a potential stumbling block for players.

Sheffield Wednesday’s summer has been stormy and wild.

Sheffield Wednesday players were paid late for the second time this season, although the issue has not been handled as quickly as in March.

In May, non-playing staff did not receive their salary, prompting Sheffield Wednesday fans to raise funds to support them.

Sheffield Wednesday fans were just recently informed of the comparatively welcome news that certain players, as well as all back-room staff and coaches, had been paid, but the club’s situation remains far from fixed.

Sheffield Wednesday’s plight becomes increasingly clear as the ‘majority’ of players continue to go without pay.

According to The Star, the ‘majority’ of players have not yet been paid, and there is no clear timeline for resolution of the matter. As a result, the club remains under embargo.

The problems worsen, however, because Dejphon Chansiri’s payments for the following month are due in two weeks, which Sheffield Wednesday fans might naturally be concerned about as the deadline approaches.

According to FIFA rules, if players go two months without salary at Sheffield Wednesday, they can quit the club with a 15-day notice period and become free agents. It is almost certain that if Chansiri is unable to resolve the issues soon, Sheffield Wednesday will have serious concerns about player retention ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Key Owls man is undoubtedly playing an important role right now, but he shouldn’t have to.

The persistent financial problem is exacerbated by the club’s lack of transparency over when difficulties will be handled.

That will leave some players looking for guidance or assistance from someone; with Danny Rohl now back in Germany, they will most likely turn to one of the more experienced heads in the dressing room, such as Barry Bannan.

Ultimately, this should not be the case. While players and even staff, despite being paid, face uncertainty about their futures, Dejphon Chansiri is nowhere to be found. It’s difficult to be attached to Sheffield Wednesday right now, especially because there’s no visible path out.
