Sheffield Wednesday: There is one clear reason why Tilman Fertitta is the right man to succeed Dejphon Chansiri

The struggling club, Sheffield Wednesday, is up for sale, and one name stands out above the others as a potential buyer.

One of the greatest clubs in English football, Wednesday, is up for sale, and the announcement has caused a rush to express interest in

purchasing them. The club will require extensive attention. In addition to having ‘football debts’ that must be paid right away,

Hillsborough has not had any renovations done in years.

Although money is a significant consideration, it is not the only one when it comes to managing a football team, and this is where one

name sticks out above the others.

It isn’t Tilman Fertitta’s money that makes him a stand-out candidate to run Wednesday

Although Tilman Fertitta is incredibly wealthy, his money does not distinguish him as a strong contender for this position. In the past,

wealthy men have attempted and failed to improve the financial situation of struggling football teams.

Fertitta stands out among the others because he has a track record of success managing sports teams, albeit in a far different setting

than the quirks of the EFL Championship or English football in general.

Fertitta has owned sports teams in the United States before. He was among the founding owners of the Houston Texans in the NFL,

and since 2017, he has owned the Houston Rockets in the NBA.

Fertitta has been a success with both the Texans and the Rockets

One of the original investors in the Houston Texans NFL team, Tilman Fertitta sold his stake in the team in 2008.

In 2017, he acquired the Rockets. He initially invested £2.2 billion in the team, which is currently valued at £5.7 billion, just $100

million less than the renowned Chicago Bulls. The Rockets fell in the play-off final after winning the NBA’s Western Conference in the

first season following the buyout.

Houston Rockets 2017-18 NBA Season (Land of Basketball)
Record Best Winning Streak
Western Conference Regular Season Won 26, Lost 9 14 straight wins
NBA Play-Offs vs Minnesota Timberwolves Won 4-1 2 straight wins
NBA Play-Offs Semi-final vs Utah Jazz Won 4-1 3 straight wins
NBA Play-off Final vs Golden State Warriors Lost 3-4 2 straight wins

Sheffield Wednesday represent a very different challenge to either the Texans or the Rockets. Any new Sheffield Wednesday owner will

have to deal with the fallout of years of atrocious senior management of the club, while football in this country is financially regulated

in a way that sports in America aren’t.

Nonetheless, he has a track record of accomplishment and has expertise managing a sports organisation. Just this distinguishes him

from the other names who have been linked to managing Sheffield Wednesday in recent days and weeks. Regardless of the new club

owner, having money will be crucial, but it will take more than just being extraordinarily wealthy to turn this team around after years

in the desert of football.
