Sheffield Wednesday will pray they’re not regretting Man City deal in the future
Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri, a budding star for Sheffield Wednesday, is expected to sign with Manchester City. The Owls are fervently
hoping that this won’t be another instance of a highly-regarded potential eluding them.
The 15-year-old striker’s transfer to the Etihad Stadium would undoubtedly be a victory for City, who have reportedly defeated Everton
and Chelsea in their bid to get one of the most promising young players in England.
City will pay £900k in front, and the son of former Everton attacker Danny Cadamarteri will eventually cost £1.5m.
Caelan-Kole finished as the top scorer in the U18 Professional Development League with 24 goals last season, despite being several
years younger than most of his oppenents.
Given Sheffield Wednesday’s current predicament, the timing of the transfer can be seen as quite poignant – as the South Yorkshire
side are currently under multiple EFL embargos and face the very real possibility of losing key first-team players.
Clubs who’ve lived to regret selling youngsters too early

In recent years, Manchester City has also gone through this anguish. Cole Palmer, who scored 16 goals and dishevelled 12 assists in the
previous season, is a prime example of what happens when talented academy players are let go.
In a similar vein, Chelsea has witnessed former players who were judged surplus to needs prosper elsewhere.
One of the most obvious instances of a team losing out on a potential superstar is Kevin De Bruyne’s early departure from the London
club to Wolfsburg before his eventual ascent to become one of the greatest in the world at Manchester City.
You don’t always have to look at the top six though – Charlton Athletic were forced to accept an initial fee of £1.7m for academy
graduate Jonjo Shelvey – who was then sold for profits totalling over £10m throughout his career, leaving the Addicks with nothing.
Cadamarteri, Manchester City move will be a lifeline for Sheffield Wednesday
The significance of the £1.5 million windfall for S6 at this time cannot be overstated.

window transfer embargo and a likely point deduction.
However, there are concerns that this money may not reach its intended recipients. The EFL has imposed strict controls on any
incoming funds because of unpaid debts to HMRC and other clubs, including Southampton and Norwich City.
Six of Wednesday’s players have reportedly already given their notice because they haven’t been paid, according to Alan Nixon’s
Patreon. However, Pierce Charles and Djeidi Gassama have both done so that their departure won’t be in vain.

The Bigger Picture of Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri to Manchester City
The sale of Cadamarteri has got to represent more than just a single transfer – it’s a cog in the wheel of Wednesday’s current plight.
While the Owls will be proud of their academy’s success in developing such a highly-rated prospect, they’re being forced to cash in due
to circumstances beyond the pitch.
Derby County was also forced to leave for a cash infusion, so perhaps Cadamarteri won’t be the only one. Omari Kellyman moved to
Chelsea for almost £19 million after joining Aston Villa from the Rams. Another player who left is left-back Archie Brown, who is
apparently being pursued by teams throughout Europe, notably Torino and Lazio of Italy.
Sheffield Wednesday will therefore have to consider if they have just watched the departure of a future England international, similar
to what Charlton Athletic had to do with Jonjo Shelvey, as the 15-year-old gets ready to go on to Manchester.
