Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Röhl says that he’s ‘very comfortable’ at the moment, but also hinted a return to Germany in the future isn’t off the table.
Speaking at a charity event to raise funds for children with cancer, Röhl was questioned about his time in England and what lay ahead for him, and while he did not reveal anything, he did mention how comfortable his family is in Leipzig. He has, of course, been living in Sheffield during his tenure as Owls manager.
The 36-year-old has been the subject of much conjecture this summer amid Hillsborough’s financial woes, with several clubs in the UK and Germany connected with a move for his services. A high compensation clause is claimed to have been prohibitive thus far, although interest remains as S6 players enter their second week without pay.
His words at the ‘Kick den Krebs’ event on Sunday have not clarified his status, with preseason at Middlewood Road scheduled to begin in a few weeks.
Danny Röhl’s Sheffield Wednesday future is uncertain
In part, and translated online, the German added, “It’s very good, very special, but English culture has captivated me, first at Southampton and then at Sheffield Wednesday.” Despite the challenging nature of the English league, I am confident in my abilities and look forward to the future.
“We are really comfortable in Leipzig. My two boys and my wife still reside here. We chose it as our home base. We simply feel great, but in football, anything is possible. Maybe I’ll meet you again in Germany…
“This is a very demanding summer break for me as well; there is a lot of back and forth, but that is football.” I’ll be glad when activities resume in the summer preparations – wherever.”
