Significant change is happening at Wolves after a structural change was announced amid the summer transfer window.
In a shocking development, Matt Hobbs may depart Wolves as the club seeks to overhaul the structure behind the scenes.
After Hobbs was named Wolves’ sporting director in November 2022, there will be a change of guard, with Matt Jackson expected to handle recruitment.
It’s a positive change for Vitor Pereira, who will have more input in Wolves’ transfer plans this summer, with Jorge Mendes and Valdir Cardoso also involved.
According to Johnny Phillips, who broke the surprise news, the Old Gold wants to offer Pereira the opportunity to’maximise his own contacts inside world football’.
Wolves could lean on Jorge Mendes to land Mateus Fernandes
Wolves fans are keen to see Mendes back at Compton Park, especially since the transfer window is so important to the club’s future.
Wolves are losing their greatest talent just four days into the transfer season, with Matheus Cunha joining Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri being pursued by Manchester City.
It is critical that Fosun invest to replace Cunha and Ait-Nouri, who contributed to numerous goals during the 2024/25 season, but doing so on a budget is easier said than done.
It doesn’t have to be an onerous endeavor, though, because Mendes has one client who may be looking to relocate and may have the answers to replace Cunha’s advancing danger in central locations.
Southampton had a disastrous season that resulted in relegation, but two players stood out for their brilliance, one of whom was Mateus Fernandes, a Gestifute player.
The Saints recruited Fernandes from Sporting CP last summer, but their relegation may have left the midfielder searching for more, which is where Mendes and Wolves come in.
Mendes may make an appealing pitch to both his client and the Wolves, who could see the 20-year-old as a valuable addition to revive Cunha’s spectacular talent.
Fernandes was able to express himself with six goals in his maiden Premier League campaign, demonstrating his potential and adaptability for the English game.

Mateus Fernandes has been compared to former Wolves ace Matheus Nunes
Fernandes plays a slightly deeper role than Cunha, but the similarities between the two are cause for concern for Wolves.
Even without any links or communication, it is clear that Wolves would be fans of Fernandes’ profile, considering his similarities to a player who once represented the Old Gold.
While Southampton were linked with Fernandes, his former coach, Vasco Seabra, compared the teenager to Matheus Nunes.
“In Portugal, he is often compared to Matheus Nunes. “I believe Mateus Fernandes shares similar characteristics,” Seabra added, before detailing what distinguishes Fernandes from his colleague.
“However, he is a versatile player who can play multiple positions, unlike Matheus Nunes. He can play deeper back in the early stages, but if necessary, he can also play between the lines as a false winger.
Seabra also praised Fernandes as a ‘immense talent’ with ‘qualities that fit so well to the Premier League’.
It would be an interesting and highly amazing deal for Mendes to aid Wolves with, especially because the Old Gold are desperate for a player of his caliber.
