Despite Nottingham Forest’s best efforts, most football reporters still think about Sunday’s incident involving

Evangelos Marinakis.

After Marinakis walked onto the pitch during Sunday’s draw with Leicester City, which seemed to result in a verbal

argument with Nuno Espirito Santo, Gary Neville became enraged with the Forest owner.

After the game, Espirito Santo spoke and attempted to defuse the tension by explaining Marinakis’ actions as a result

of his confusion over the Taiwo Awoniyi scenario.

Simon Jordan finds it difficult to accept Forest’s statement regarding Awoniyi’s injury, which claimed that Marinakis

was on the pitch because of worries for Awoniyi’s health.

Although the club would prefer that the media frenzy subside, the talkSPORT analyst appeared to be on their side

when Jordan criticised Neville’s Marinakis perspective. Jordan has since blasted the Forest owner on his radio show,

suggesting that the club statement was overly harsh.

“With due respect to his argument, Marinakis would not have been on that pitch, nor would he have been anywhere

near it, had Nottingham Forest scored a goal in the final minute of that game,” he stated.

I don’t believe the notion that we are now being made to accept: “Don’t you dare criticise the principles of what

Marinakis did because his only concern was on a human level.”

Even if the broader compassion for Awoniyi is taken into consideration, Alan Shearer’s assessment of Marinakis in

his response to Sunday’s events seems to have done little to counteract the condemnation of the Greek businessman.

However, Ordan continued his tirade by outlining exactly what he believes Forest should do to set a boundary in the

conversation.

Neville and Jordan appeared to be on opposing sides of the Marinakis controversy at the beginning of the week, as

the talkSPORT analyst urged against overreactions to the City Ground outburst.

Jordan has made it obvious how this argument can end soon, but it appears that he is now unable to defend

Marinakis any further.

“Of course you care about the people who work for you if you own something and are proud of it, but this is a step too

far,” he remarked. Tell Neville that you believe he crossed the line. Don’t make yourself superior to others by

bringing them into the story.

Jordan’s suggestion to deal with Neville personally is likely the only way to resolve the matter, regardless of your

position. With two important Premier League games remaining, Espirito Santo and his Forest coaching team cannot

afford any negative publicity around Marinakis and club announcements.
