Simon Murray admits flooring assistant manager to avoid fines, while Dundee hitman remains philosophical about Daizen Maeda battle.
Murray is currently the top scorer in the country and has been linked with a Scotland call-up amid Dens Park’s relegation fight.
He takes pride in giving Premiership defenders hell from start to finish, but Dundee standout Simon Murray is no stranger to getting physical in pursuit of his goals.
So much so that he left one of his old coaches lying down and seeking medical attention after being offered the chance to avoid mounting fines.
The 33-year-old has had an unusual career, with his nomination for SPFA Player of the Year adding to a resume that began with stops in the Juniors with Downfield, Tayport, and Dundee Violet.
Murray, who is beaming after receiving a well-deserved SWFA player of the year nomination, believes that being exposed to men’s football at such a young age shaped him.
Murray explained: “That’s where you learn. When I was 16, I was playing against strong defenders.
“There were a few games – Arnadale, Arniston – I was up against old school players and they’d just elbow you off the ball and this thing and the next.”
Murray speaks warmly about his time in junior football, emphasising his desire to reach the top, which is evident as he is joint top of the Scottish Premiership scoring charts with Daizen Maeda.
